BILLHOPPER: Recycling and Multi-denomination

Billhopper is the new multi-denomination banknote recycler that Azkoyen has launched to resolve the empty hopper problem.

When the market asked us for a solution for emptying hoppers, we interviewed dozens of operators. We conclude that at any moment 5.5% of the Spanish machines are shut down for the weekly emptying of hoppers. There are some significant losses simply because of the need to repair the machine thus leaving the machine unavailable to the player.

The solution proposed by all operators unanimously was reusing the inserted banknotes to pay prizes. It is what we call "Banknote Recycling", i.e. using banknotes inserted by the player to pay out prizes. However several operators stressed two problems associated with this concept:
(a) Recycling only one type of note might be insufficient. Paying out, for example, only 5 € notes does not solve the problem if there has been few 5 € notes used to play the machine.
(b) Paying out with high-value banknotes could prevent the enjoyment of the game. In this regard the differences between Slot machines and Casino machines were highlighted. Slot machines are defined as a means of entertainment with limited stakes and there are a few very significant playing habits on behalf of the users. A well known habit is the preference of many players to enjoy the game by introducing coins one by one in small amounts, and thus avoiding large and aggressive bets. Returning for example only € 20 banknotes would reduce the attractiveness of the machine.
The Azkoyen solution allows you to pay out the prize in banknotes of various denominations, avoiding empty hoppers, and does not reduce the enjoyment of the game. It is called “Billhopper” and was presented at the last Interazar exhibition. The BILLHOPPER combines both concepts: Recycling + Multi-denomination technology and solves the problem of empty hoppers by paying out prizes with 5 € + 10 € + 20 € notes.
